Meta Reorganizes AI Teams to Compete with Google, OpenAI, and TikTok

Meta is restructuring its AI division into two specialized teams to sharpen its competitive edge against rivals like Google, OpenAI, and TikTok. The AI Products Team, led by Connor Hayes, will focus on consumer-facing AI features, including personalized recommendations and smart assistants across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Meanwhile, the AGI Foundations Team, co-headed by Ahmad Al-Dahle and Amir Frenkel, will pursue advancements in artificial general intelligence (AGI), overseeing projects like the open-source Llama model.

The reorganization aims to enhance efficiency by minimizing cross-team dependencies and aligning Meta’s structure with industry leaders. Rather than cutting jobs, Meta is realigning existing talent to accelerate innovation in both immediate AI applications and long-term AGI research.
